"my bloody valentine were a joke"
« on: July 28, 2007, 09:23:56 AM »
according to Alan McGee

Quote
Still, images like these won't help change the minds of detractors. It doesn't help that Alan McGee, the man who signed Ride, My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive to Creation, is its most vehement critic. "Bloody nonsense. My Bloody Valentine were my comedy band. Ride were different - they were a rock band, really, a fantastic rock band - but My Bloody Valentine were a joke, my way of seeing how far I could push hype." Although he said Shields was a genius in the Guardian in 2004, he now says, unconvincingly, that the revival is just people still buying his lies.

here is what McGee say on his myspace site
Quote
PUT A MONKEY IN THE STUDIO..KEVIN SHEILDS WITH ALAN MOULDER AND YOU GET AS INTERESTING A RECORD AS LOVELESS JUST TELL THE WORLD IT IS ''GENIUS''..MCGEE

Wow. I see that Alan is still a BIG winded gasbag. Him and Kevin must've gotten into it or something.

Put a monkey in the studio .. Alan McGee with a soapbox and you get as interesting a record as Britney Spears "Oops!... I Did It Again" just tell the world that it is "genius" .. dead_red_eyes.

Yeah, it's not great at all ... as is far from being original. Best band from Glasgow in 25 years my ass. Ever heard of Mogwai you daft bastard?

Here's a link to Alans MySpace blog about KEVIN SHIELDS/MBV :

wow! Alan's opinion on MBV has greatly changed my point of view. I'm going to immediately burn all my albums and erase them from my memory.

that's so embarrassing.  it's since kevin started telling everybody about how alan mcgee spent his days engineering bullshit.  whenever you hear about the valentines, there's always activity of alan mcgee wanting to put singles out and stuff.

it's about as valid as hearing him descibe mogwai records as the best thing since loveless.  oh my.

I remember hearing about him wanting to put out some totally weird MBV song as a single but I don't remember which one it was. It was in 33 1/3 I think. I think it might have been When You Wake You're Still In A Dream. And boy theres a lot of smilies loading on this page. And they aren't fucking stopping. What the fuck. Stop it. OK, there we go. Yes, we don't need that many smilies. At least make a little popup with all of them on it. But in fact most of them are retarded anyway.

i've never met McGee or heard much about him, but it seems he's the king of shite talking.

when Mogwai's new album came out he's fucking "AWWW MAH GAWD BEST ALBUM I'VE DONE SINCE LOVELESS", when it's probably one of Mogwai's weaker albums.  and i heard about that Glas Vegas bullshit too.  Bobby Gillespie recently went through a "RAWK N ROLL!!!" phase, (and produced one of the worst albums ever in the process, sadly) and judging by what he said about Ride maybe he's in a similar mindset of "MBV werent rock n' roll, they were fuckin PONCES" or something.  i mean if it drove Gillespie to become a View/Babyshambles fan, it could conceivably make a man hate MBV.

or maybe they've had a "fall out" or something.  pathetic as it is.

but whatever.  his opinion's fuck all to me.
