The Iran/Nigeria game notwithstanding, it's been a pretty wild tournament.  Who'd've thought that Spain and Portugal would get slaughtered or that the US would actually win a game?

well this has been an interesting one thus far...pretty much not sleeping at the moment because the games here run from 1:30 through to like 10am. earmarking the italians for the win, no other team can rival them for efficiency and if their supply to balotelli is working and he's on form they're seriously unbeatable. I mean england aren't all that special but the italians one with what was in essence a makeshift team, with andrea pirlo literally controlling the entirety of the game. very good tournament altogether, shame we're heading out but for an admittedly terrible squad we're a very well-coached team and got a lot better than we deserved. another group and things definitely would have been very different. ALSO picking chile to be the belter (if they beat the netherlands and don't have to play brazil, although that in itself would be a mesmerising game).

I'm backing Italy - I've chucked some money on chile as outsiders.

Think that Argentina will grow into it still.

US/Germany in a few hours.  Still debating on whether I want to go somewhere to watch the game or not, as the game starts during the lunch hour and I'm seemingly one of the only Americans hoping Germany wins this game.

Related: The lead up to this match has been a great in being able to suss out who actually cares about the tournament and who's bandwagoning because 'Murica.  The looks of confusion some people give me when I tell them there's a possibility both teams might advance regardless of who wins has been deeply entertaining.

I'm a liverpool fan so I'm completely biased on the maniacal genius of Luis

To his credit, he played an amazing game against England.  I never would have guessed he recently had surgery.

That said, I'm glad he's effectively out of the tournament and banned from any involvement for four months. Curious to see how LFC will respond to the ban.

Also, I'm happy to see Germany and the US advance out of group.  Germany was a bit of a forgone conclusion (the odds of them being knocked out were extremely low to begin with), but I'm impressed that the US put up such a fight through all of the matches and made it out.  I didn't expect them to win a single game, so I'm pleasantly surprised.

Yep well done to the US.

I feel the American owners will take legal action against FIFA over bitey.
